WGSD uses the Raptor system for all visitors

The Webster Groves School District uses a check-in system from Raptor Technologies to improve safety for students and staff by screening visitors, contractors and volunteers at all school buildings.

Here’s how it works: All school visitors will be asked to present identification, such as a driver’s license, which will pass through a scanner. Parents and other volunteers who visit regularly or participate in field trips only need to do this once. If you don’t have government-issued identification, we will enter the information manually. Within a few seconds, the Raptor system will check a visitor’s name and date of birth against a national database of registered sex offenders to ensure that offenders aren’t entering a school without our knowledge. No other information from the ID will be gathered or recorded. Once an entry is approved, Raptor issues a visitor badge. Should the system find a match in the offender database, however, the school administrative assistant will receive a notification but no details. Only the assistant superintendent of human resources will have access to the results.

The safety of our students is our highest priority. This new system provides the schools a quick and efficient way to identify anyone who might present a danger to students. For additional information, we have provided a list of frequently asked questions, attached.

Kids forget stuff--often. If you need to drop anything off for your student, please check in at the reception desk and set your delivery on the drop-off table in the Senior Entrance.

Parents often deliver lunches, instruments, athletic gear, and even clean socks for students. Deliveries should be marked with your student's name, and they will be placed on a table in the main entrance for pick-up. Please text your student that their delivery is here, since we often do not have student assistants to deliver the items. Students are allowed to check their phones during passing periods.

LEARNING DEVICES EXCEPTION:
If you're bringing up a Chromebook or learning device, please check it in with our receptionist.

Have medication?
We cannot deliver medication to students. You must hand-deliver the medication or take it to the nurse.

Thinking of ordering out for lunch?
We do not allow restaurant deliveries for students, including third party deliveries like DoorDash. Only those food deliveries brought in by family members will be accepted.Thank you for your assistance with this.

Students should check our Lost and Found for any lost items. We have two locations:

You can use the Parent Portal to email your child's teachers.

If your child feels ill during the school day, encourage them to see the school nurse.

If your student contacts you directly to report an illness please ask them to go to the nurse. She is able to excuse students with guardian/parental consent, and this will allow for better disease surveillance that will ultimately enhance control efforts.

Also, please note that any medications for your child must be administered by you or the school nurse. You cannot drop off any medications.

Visitors must have an appointment to enter WGHS.

Even if your child turned 18, parents must approve of all absences, unless the child is legally emancipated.

We ask that you call in advance if you're picking up your child early.

Unlike elementary and middle school, we do not call and interrupt class to retrieve your child. To speed up the process of picking up your student, we always recommend calling at least 60 minutes ahead of time to allow for:

Retrieval of message
Locating student and delivering pass to student
Checking student out of their offices

Communication
Should bad weather or other adverse conditions prompt us to consider closing schools, the District will make a decision as early as possible. Information will be available through the following outlets:

Late Start due to Inclement Weather
The Webster Groves School District will consider opening schools with a “late start” on inclement days when roads are expected to be cleared within a few hours. This option would keep children, families and staff off the roads during the busy morning rush hour. A late start would mean that all schools would open one hour and thirty minutes later than their usual start times. A quick breakfast would be available for students. Transportation provided by First Student, the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation, and ZipCare will be scheduled to pick up students one hour and thirty minutes later than their regular pick up times.

All schools and Adventure Club would close at their regular times.

WGHS Start Time: 9:40 a.m.
Staff Arrival Time: 9:10 a.m.
Student Arrival Time: 9:25 a.m.

Early Dismissal: 12:30 p.m.

Late Start Bus Times
With a late start, bus schedules will run one hour and 15 minutes later than the regularly scheduled time.

Do you have a WGSD learning device at home?

Students are not allowed to order lunch from an outside delivery service or restaurant.

If we receive a local food delivery for a student, we will turn away the order and report the infraction to the Assistant Principal's office.

If you drop off a lunch for your student, you will be instructed to place the lunch on the delivery table and send a text to inform your child. We do not deliver lunches that are dropped off. Thank you for your help on this matter.

Reminder for early dismissal requests:

We require at least one-hour notice before a dismissal can take place. Please keep in mind our unit offices are closed for 30 minutes during lunchtime.

It is less disruptive to the class if students that must leave school early depart at the time of the bell, between classes. If that is the case, after you call the unit office, please tell your student to head to their unit office when the bell rings. However, we understand that sometimes that cannot always happen.

Final Assessment Information

Assessments
An extended measurement of learning, or assessment, will be given at the end of 1st and 2nd semesters in all classes. This assessment will count for a specific percentage of the overall grade to be determined by each department. Assessments may include:

Project
Final Exam
Presentation to the class

Not all teachers will be giving a traditional final exam. However, all students will follow the final exam schedule. Teachers will inform students in advance if they are taking a final exam.

Assessments are an important part of the student’s grade and educational experience. Every effort should be made to be sure the student is at school for exams/projects, and vacations and other commitments are avoided at this time.

No final exams or assessments will be completed early. If a student must miss an exam/assessment, a parent must notify the appropriate assistant principal. The student will receive an Incomplete (I) and will need to make up the assessment at the teacher’s convenience. For students who are engaged in MHSAA athletics or activities, a grade of Incomplete (I) may have a negative impact on their eligibility.

Finishing the Semester Strong
Students are encouraged to collaborate with teachers regarding additional opportunities to demonstrate learning throughout the semester. Students and parents are encouraged to monitor academic progress and teachers are expected to communicate concerns regarding learning and growth with parents. While we want all students to maintain learning and to stay current with assignments and coursework, in the case that this has not fully occurred, students are encouraged to discuss options for improvement directly with their teachers. Students may also reach out to their guidance counselors for support.

Teachers have always been encouraged to provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate learning. Opportunities may include:

Quiz/test retakes and/or corrections
Ability to submit late or missing assignments
Completion of alternative assessments
Extended deadlines on assignments

Final Assessment Format and Attendance Expectations

A comprehensive assessment will be given at the end of 1st and 2nd semesters in all classes. Each final exam period will be 95 minutes in length. The final assessment will count between 10% and 20% of the final course grade with the exact percentage to be determined by each department. Students will not take finals in Academic Lab, student assistant periods, Independent Period, Peer Tutoring, or Study Hall. Exams are an important part of the student’s grade and educational experience. Every effort should be made to be sure the student is at school for exams and vacations and other commitments are avoided at this time.

On the first day of finals, everyone is expected to be in attendance, as it is a special schedule. On the exam half-days, students should not be in the building if they do not have an exam or are not studying in Academic Lab; otherwise, they are expected to report to class, and attendance will be taken. Activity buses are for athletes only. Everyone else should promptly exit the building. Students are also prohibited from going to Hixson.
