Art 24 - 25

All Art courses will count for Fine Art credit. Students need 1.0 Fine Art credit to graduate.

1006 ART FUNDAMENTALS
Credit:  ½ unit
Open to Grades: 9-12
This is the basic art studio orientation course which emphasizes design language and visual literacy. Students become acquainted with a variety of mediums and are encouraged to experiment, innovate, and transfer learning from one project to another.  The specific content included in this course includes exploration of two-dimensional drawing composition and painting techniques, color theory, three-dimensional sculpture techniques, a functional ceramics survey, art history and vocabulary, and traditional craftwork. 2D/3D Design is designed to serve as either an introduction to future art studios or as an appreciation course to broaden a well-rounded education.

13601  DIGITAL ART
Credit: ½ unit
Open to Grades: 9-12
Do you want to know how to remove someone from an image? Do you want to use a drawing tablet to digitize your work of art? Do you want to see your artwork animated? If so, this is the course for you! With the combination of studio art methods and the use of application software, this will happen. Manipulating images using Photoshop, creating original drawings using Illustrator and making 3D animations using Blender will be accomplished in this course. Scanners, digitizing tablets and digital cameras will be used to add a personal touch to projects. Students should have a good drawing background and computer skills for this course.

1363 AP STUDIO ART: 2-D DESIGN
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, and at least two other art courses in the area of inquiry.
Open to Grades: 11-12
This is a year-long course which challenges students to conduct sustained investigations in art making through studio practice, experimentation, and revision guided by inquiry.  Studio practice would include a skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas as applied through practice to build a portfolio for College Board review for AP designation. Written articulation of conceptual ideas, studio processes and individual line of inquiry is required as a major component.    

CERAMICS COURSES

1030 CERAMICS I
Credits: ½ unit
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals
Open to Grades: 9-12
Fundamental skills will expose the student to the possibilities and limitations in the construction and glazing of clay. The student will experience a variety of hand-building methods, glazing techniques, and three-dimensional sculpture.

1032 ADVANCED CERAMICS
Credits:  ½ unit
Prerequisite: Proficiency in Ceramics I or instructor's approval
Open to Grades: 10-12
The student will develop creative, technical, and practical skills using hand-building and/or wheel-throwing methods. The student will learn basic chemistry and math necessary to formulate and mix glazes, and will be encouraged in the development of their own personal style. Students may enroll and earn credit for this course more than once.

DRAWING AND PAINTING COURSES

1130 DRAWING AND PAINTING I
Credits:  ½ unit
Prerequisite:  Art Fundamentals             
Open to Grades: 9-12
Using a variety of drawing media, students will sharpen observation skills and learn to use line and tone to create images which exhibit an awareness of the elements and principles of design.  Having experienced a number of drawing processes, students will then enter into the world of color, solving drawing and design problems in paint. Students will participate in various art competitions and will begin to develop a portfolio of their artwork.

1132 ADVANCED DRAWING AND PAINTING
Credits:  ½ unit
Prerequisite: Proficiency in Drawing and Painting I or instructor's approval             
Open to Grades: 10-12
Using a variety of drawing and painting  media, students will continue to sharpen observation skills and learn to use line and tone to create images which exhibit a knowledge of the elements and principles of design. Having experienced a number of drawing processes, students will then enter into the world of color, solving drawing and design problems in paint.  Students will participate in various art competitions and will begin to develop a portfolio of their artwork that reflects their personal interests in the subject matter. Students may enroll and earn credit for this course more than once.

PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES

1210 PHOTOGRAPHY I
Credits:  ½ unit         
Open to Grades: 10-12
This studio is designed to go beyond taking snapshots by helping students learn how to express themselves through photography. Students will learn basic picture-taking skills.  They will learn how to develop black and white film and print enlargements.

1230 ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY
Credits: ½ unit
Prerequisite: Proficiency in Photography I
Open to Grades: 10-12
Advanced photography students will review and refine photographing, developing and enlargement skills.  Experimentation with unusual techniques such as superimposing images, and use of varied materials such as graded papers and filters will be introduced. Students will be introduced to Digital Photography, the use of computers and reproductive techniques. Students must have access to their own digital camera.
